Overview

A beeping, leaking or suddenly silent RO purifier can be stressful, but many of these problems have simple causes. This guide helps you separate what you can safely check yourself from what needs a trained technician.

Why is my RO purifier beeping?

Beeps are your purifier's way of asking for attention. The meaning differs by brand and model, so check your user manual, but these are the most common causes:

  • Filter or membrane replacement reminder is due
  • Storage tank is full or the water level sensor is triggered
  • Low inlet water pressure or no water supply
  • Loose or faulty power adapter

Quick fixes you can try at home

Before calling anyone, run through this short checklist:

  • Check that the inlet water tap is fully open and water is reaching the purifier
  • Make sure the power adapter is firmly plugged in and the socket is working
  • Switch the purifier off for 5 minutes, then switch it on again to reset it
  • Look for kinks or bends in the water tubes
  • If the tank is full, draw some water and see if the beeping stops
  • Check when the filters were last changed; an overdue service is a very common reason for alerts

RO leaking water: what to check

First, switch off the power and close the inlet water supply. Never touch electrical parts while there is water around the unit.

  • Wipe the area dry and see where the water is coming from
  • Check if a tube has slipped out of its fitting or the tap connector is loose
  • Look at the filter housings for water seeping from the sealing ring
  • If you cannot find the source, or the water keeps coming back, do not keep using the purifier

RO keeps shutting off or stops working

If the purifier goes silent, work through these points:

  • Check the power socket with another appliance
  • Confirm that the water supply is not interrupted, especially if your building uses tanker or timed municipal supply
  • Wait a few minutes; some purifiers pause when the tank is full and restart when you draw water
  • If the lights are on but there is no purification sound, the pump or solenoid valve may need checking

When to call a technician

Whether you use Kent, Aquaguard, Livpure, Pureit, Zero B or another brand, these signs mean it is time for a professional check:

  • Beeping continues after the basic checks above
  • Water is leaking from inside the unit or near electrical parts
  • The pump makes a loud or unusual noise
  • Water flow is very low even after cleaning and checking the supply
  • The water tastes or smells different after a filter change
  • It has been more than 6 to 12 months since the last service

How to avoid these problems

  • Follow a regular service schedule for filters and membrane
  • Use a TDS test during each service so the purifier settings match your water source
  • Avoid moving or pulling on the purifier tubes
  • Keep the area around the purifier dry and well ventilated
